How to improve your short game

Are you in need of tips for improving your short game?  Does your putter just not seem to be working anymore?  Are you suffering from those small fits of internal rage that every golfer experiences on the putting green when another five footer was missed by leaving it short or blasting it by the hole?  Or is it the unruly chip shots that will just not stay on the green?  Improving your short game is a life long pursuit as is the game of golf, the best advice any golfer could ever receive is to never give up.  In the following, we will uncover some valuable tips for improving your short game on and around the green.

One of the most frustrating feelings any golfer can experience is the disappearance of their short game.  You know when you step onto the first green miss a putt horribly and wonder whose putter is in your hand and then wonder if it is actually that your short game and putting stoke took off for that all-inclusive vacation in Mexico that you booked, without you.  Thus, leaving you sitting devastated in the club house wondering how you possible just shot the horrible round that you did.  It happens to all of us, no matter how much time and energy has gone into learning how to putt and work around a green, we all can simply have a bad day.  Whether it is bad weather or an argument at the office or a even a cold, the careful concentration necessary to sink that perfect putt is not always attainable.

As the common saying goes, practice does make perfect and do not let anyone tell you differently.  A golfer’s short game requires much more practice than ‘off the tee’ and fairway shots because of the finesse necessary to stick it tight even sometimes, never mind all the time.  How much a golfer should practice varies wholly on how much time can be dedicated to playing and practicing and how much that golfer wishes to excel at the game.  Like any type of learning, it is possible to practice too much though.  One lesson may be all it takes to fix the problem ailing your short game and costing you those valuable strokes around the green, in my books it’s worth the fifty or so bucks.

In conclusion, the best advice to give any golfer looking to improve their short game is to always aim past the hole, commit to your shot, follow through, and finish.
