3 Tips that Will Make You a Better Putter
When you are out there trying to play golf, it can really be poetry in motion. What happens is you end up utilizing an assortment of physical skills as well as techniques. Simply the main thing that is employed is the brain. The mind is what is going to cause all the ultimate decisions. It is going to tell your motor system what to do and when to do various things. Hopefully this is going to be accomplished with some sort of harmony. But actually what it comes down to first and what determines where the ball is going to finally go, is where did you align that golf ball.
Alignment is the start of everything in golf. There are 3 tips that are going to help you to hole more putts, so lets get started on them.
Golfers align to a Spot
There are some golfers that like to pick out a spot, a couple to a few feet in front of the ball. What is going to happen next is when they set the putter behind the ball, they are going to align the face of the putter or the lines on the putter to the spot that they picked in front of the ball. When aligning to a spot one foot or two in front of the ball it is much easier than trying to align to the golf hole. The real golf hole can be many feet farther, so the spot technique will assist to get the ball started on the intended line.
Bowlers use the Spot Alignment Strategy
Bowlers will use this same kind of alignment strategy. If you are a bowler, you have found out that there are spots on the bowling lane for you to align to. The bowler will pick one of those marks, and then attempt to roll the ball over the spot that they chose. When I finally learned about this and what those marks on the lane were used for, my bowling score skyrocketed up to 104!
Logo Alignment
A couple of other schemes that you can use to get the ball started on the intended line so you can start to hole more putts or even stop 3 putting so much. What you can do is to take the logo of the ball and set it along the intended line you want the putt to to start on. This will give you a better visual reference to the line when you are standing over the ball.
Use a Sharpie to Mark Your Ball
There are some golfers, most golfers, including a golfer named Tiger Woods that will use a sharpie to create a straight line on the ball about one inch long on the ball. Use this technique the same as using the logo technique. Place the line that you drew on the ball on the line that you need the putt to start on. Hopefully you chose the correct line to start on, and if you did, you should watch the ball fall into the hole more often. This sharpie technique is going to also give you a better visual reference for directing the ball down the intended path. When you are standing over the ball, it is already aligned for you. This should make it simple to make the putt.
Those are a few idea’s to assist in getting the ball into the hole more often. They work for me, so they should work for you too. Enjoy, and may your scores begin to get lower and your handicap begin to come down.
